HUCK WORKSHOP
3 Day Workshop Exploring Weave Structure, Fiber and Color with Versatile, Vibrant Huck
by Marcy Petrini,
Wed-Fri., January 26-28, 2008 at Heritage Village (SPACE STILL AVAILABLE)
The most versatile 4-shaft unit structure, huck lace, also is one of the most traditional. This workshop will use huck to explore the three most important elements of a good cloth: structure, fiber and color. Weaving huck, you can produce either warp or weft floats and even combine both on the same side of the fabric. There are dozens of further possibilities for a huck warp using other treadlings like twill and treadling on opposites.
For this round-robin workshop, we'll bring pre-warped looms in different types and weights of fiber, different setts and use a variety of wefts to discover surprising and effective combinations. Finally, while traditional huck is woven monochromatically, we'll explore adding color to produce vibrant fabrics and a new dimension with color-and-weave effects.
Marcy Petrini is a past president of HGA, teaches weaving at the Chimneyville Crafts School in Jackson, MS and her article "Weaving Huck" was published in the winter 2006/07 issue of Shuttle Spindle and Dyepot, to which she regularly contributes.
